🟢 Have Lawn Bowling and Croquet Questions? Start Here:
⬥ Where do we play?
At the West Point Grey Lawn Bowling & Croquet Club on the west side of Vancouver on the corner of W. 6th Ave. and Trimble St. Full contact details are in the footer below.
⬥ Are these sports difficult to learn to play?
Not at all. If you can bend down and roll a ball along the ground then you can Lawn Bowl and if you can straddle a ball in a standing position and strike it with a mallet then you can play Croquet. Of course, each game has its rules to learn. All of us were there when we started so we know what it takes to learn how to play and will help you from the beginning.
⬥ Aren’t Lawn Bowling and Croquet just for old people?
Absolutely not. Lawn Bowling and Croquet are played by people of all ages and are great sports for mixed groups as there is little gender advantage. Bowls and Croquet are among the few sports that are gentle enough on joints and muscles to play for life. The best players in the world are typically young adults and they will be playing into their 90s.
⬥ What kind of clothing do I wear?
Casual clothing is the norm. Flat-soled shoes (no heels) are required to protect the greens but they can have soles with light tread. For special Lawn Bowling events, club colours (blue/white), traditional whites or collared shirts may be required.
In addition, for V&D, Interclub and Provincial Tournaments collared shirts with sleeves are mandatory, no blue denim, and all team members must wear the same matching colours and style.
⬥ Can I try these sports before joining?
Yes, we have two ways to try. The first is the “Test Drive” where you arrange a short visit to the club where you can roll a bowl or strike a ball with a mallet and tour the club and meet a few members. You can learn more by clicking the Test Drive link in the footer below. The other way is to sign up for lessons and then decide if you would like to join after your lessons. You can find out all about lessons by clicking HERE.
⬥ When can I bowl and play croquet?
There are several weekly bowling leagues and open bowling draws almost everyday. See the Lawn Bowling page on this site for further details. One of our two lawns is available for croquet most of the time and you can conveniently book online for croquet play. See the Croquet page on this site for further details including the public view of our online booking sheet. You’ll see that we play Croquet throughout the year.
⬥ How long do Bowling and Croquet games last?
On average bowling games last about 2 hours. Croquet games vary widely depending on the game being played but the croquet game we play at our club most frequently lasts about 1 hour. As you can see from the croquet booking sheet the afternoon session lasts 3 hours so you can play more than one game if you choose.
⬥ Does the Club host many competitive tournaments?
There are quite a few club-members-only and inter-club tournaments but not enough to significantly interfere with regular social lawn bowling and croquet. See the calendar on the Home page for the tournament schedule.
🔵 Membership & Costs?
⬥ What are the current membership fees?
Full Membership: $275
First year: $140
Youth (under 18): $140
Social: $30
Beginner lessons ($30) are deducted if you join.
⬥ Do I need to provide my own equipment?
No, all equipment for both Lawn Bowling and Croquet are provided at no cost. We recommend trying different Club bowls to determine the most suitable size for you. After using club bowls and mallets for a while many members often decide that having your own bowls or your own croquet mallet would be beneficial. If you decide to purchase your own equipment members are happy to provide guidance in making the purchase.

🟣 Club & Community?
⬥ Does the club have other activities besides Bowling and Croquet?
It sure does. There’s Monday Bridge all year long and Wednesday Games Day in the off-season when the lawns are not available for bowls play. There are also many Social Events where members gather to enjoy our club community off the lawn. A full year schedule of special events can be seen in the Calendar on the Home page of the site or past and soon to occur events can be seen on the Special Events & News page.
⬥ Does the Club belong to other organizations?
Yes — including Bowls BC, Bowls Canada, and the Vancouver & District Lawn Bowling Association. Some club members belong to Croquet Canada.
