Singles Competitions Aug 10 2024

A very warm, sunny day greeted all our singles players for a day full of drama and amazing competition. There were 10 women and 8 men all competing, with some very hard fought games. As it was a singles competition it was the first player to reach 15 points, with a time limit of 90 minutes. One game was so close it ran out of time at 14-14, a real tied game to the last minute! Here are the final results:

Women’s Singles (Convened by Kathie Draeseke)

  1.  Donna Elliott
  2.  Judy Chen
  3.  Ruth Mennie

Men’s Singles (Convened by Paul Klintworth )

  1.  Russell Boyd
  2.  David Crowe
  3.  Bill Sharp

BC Day Holiday Bowling

Wonderful weather for fun games. In the morning we had 2ft bowling, where any bowls within 2ft of the jack counted for points. At lunchtime there were wonderful goodies, prepared by Janis – thank you! As it was so hot we only played 8 ends for triples, with prizes for the winning team. Thank you to all who helped behind the scenes for such a superb day!

Aussie Pairs

12 first and second year members played with some great bowling and lots of fun! Thank you to our Convenors, and for those who provided refreshments

Canada Day Cup

A lovely dry summer day where there was full sun in the afternoon combine with the red and white of Canada Day led to some great bowling with some amazing games. Only one team won both of their games, and they were the overall winners: Mark Dix-Cooper, George Bangham and Melanie Klintworth. Second place went to Kathie Draeseke, David Crowe, and Ian Cumming, closely followed by Elaine Rolston, Susan Boyd, and Sue Dix-Cooper in third place. Many thanks to all the very many volunteers who contributed their time and effort to the success of this wonderful Canada Day event, and thank you to convenor Jan Miko.

Frauds and Scams Presentation

45 people attended a most informative talk presented by Linda Yauk on behalf of Seniors First BC. The biggest takeaway is to be careful with any phone calls, texts, email messages etc. which seem out of place or are soliciting personal information. Afterward we were treated to tea, coffee and sweets during which there was much fruitful discussion.

Indoor Bowling

Mark Dix-Cooper, Ruth Mennie and Sue Dix-Cooper were playing on the WPG team in the Inter-club Triples league at Pacific Indoor Lawn Bowling club and won the silver medal in the B level playoffs.

There were 8 teams in the B level playoffs and they had to play the team that won the gold medal. They had a very exciting game which ended with the New West team winning 15-13.  If they had won the game they would have earned the Gold medal! Well bowled!!
